Planning: Treatment feedback

Feedback

After presenting the treatment presentation to the entire class about what we are doing, it was a mixed response. Everyone loved the idea but there are pros and cons towards our work. In terms of the pros of the music video, our classmates thought that introducing a more recent music genre and making a music video out of it sounds great in terms of originality. Moreover, when we said that the genre of music has not been fully experimented on yet, it left us with an even bigger advantage because we can provide Andrew Goodwin's music theory more easier in terms of flexibility of the music video. What they also liked was how there were a variety of camera works that go well with the beat of the drop in trap music and also in terms of editing, we are able to free up a lot of space for editing making a gradual suspense in the music video in terms of quantity of editing. What our classmates also really enjoyed were the uses of colour in terms of scenery and light and they really loved the idea of the colour psychology video that we are going to use. The back story was moving and also they ideas of transitioning from reality to dreams is also a strong one.

There are many pros but the quantity of cons also left our group in making a lot of big decisions for this music video. The main con about this music video treatment, our classmates had point out were that the amount of shots that we planned and the use of settings and terminology are considered impossible for our professionalism at our age. The music video required a lot of animation and colourful edits and our classmates are worried about the final outcome of the animations and after effects, they were scared that the scribbles and other types of animation will not look legit enough like our inspired artists (Getter Jack U) and would take a huge amount of time to film and edit. Another con was the time of day that we decided to film. Our music video involves around night life, the trap genre effectively highlighted on night life. What our classmates thought was that there would be a lack of equipment within the group to make shots in the dark possible and colour grading would take too much time to do for every single scene. Shots in the dark will effect in a really blurry and weird footage if not taken at the right shutter speed and ISO settings. If the ISO is too high, the final outcome will have a decent brightness that is visible for the audience, however, the footage will become grainy as a result of a high ISO. Furthermore, if the shutter speed is too low, handling the camera will be an even bigger challenge if there is no use of a tripod or a steadicam. Footage will shake and our classmates are worried about how the final outcome might take. Third, the lyrics and visuals will not entirely follow the theory of Goodwin because of the lack of lyrics that the song had. Trap mainly rely on tunes, and the only two sentences the artist will have to sing are "faded I'm wasted" and "all I wanna do is drive home to you baby, the classmates thought that without good editing skills for the music video, having the artist sing repetitively on the screen will result in boredom because they say the same words over again.

Here are the main pros and cons of our music video, there is a lot of thinking to do in terms of when we are getting the work done, and also to edit and make animation.
