After weeks of researching how all the components of this year
's coursework: how to make a music video, what is in a music video. What is a digipak and the target audience of the digipak. How is an Artist Website useful? After all of the researching and a few first hand experiences of making and editing a music video, we are now able to freely start our project. This year, we combined what was left of the famous AS-Media group, ChillBroSwaggins and the AS group of George Macken, we combined the remaining members to make our new label, Oni 8.
After Assembling our new group, we sat down and had a meeting within our group on what sort of music video we should start producing. After the process of talking, thinking of different genres and styles, we figured out the perfect genre for our music video: that is Trap Music.
The first reason as to why we decided on making a Trap music video was because of George, who is an excellent music editor and who has a really wide knowledge in the world of Electronic music and especially the genre of Trap. After realizing that, the rest of the members of the group tagged along in making a Trap music video. The second reason as to why we agreed on making a Trap Music video was that it was a genre that we all thought could be altered and twisted into our own signature style, but still following a few minor codes and conventions of a Trap genre. Our group likes being free, we like to be innovative and bring concept to our art so what we did was discussed with George (Greg) about the codes and conventions of Trap.
Codes and Conventions to Trap
There are not a lot of key codes and conventions to trap music because the music genre is rather new. Trap has been around the same time as EDM music, which was found in 2010 and the genre is an electronic music that is seen to have a suspense within its music, the level of chaos and the quantity of drops and fast pace rhythm increases as the duration of the music develops on, and, Trap music is seen to be played in various Electronic festivals, clubs and parties, so the style of music evolves around a frequently changing urban culture and also, it promotes the party life, alcohol consumption, drunk consumption and a rebellious and energetic vibe towards the music.
The target audience for Trap music and EDM ranges between teens to adults (16 to 25 or so). The reasoning for this is that Trap is very rebellious compared to other genres of EDM, so it becomes enticing for teenagers. Trap is also very popular in clubs and festivals, so it is also aimed for college students and above, and other age groups into partying.
Trap music goes hand in hand with hip hop culture and fashion, also known as 'urban'. This is also popular among younger people.
Trap music videos either feature a story or are abstract. In Jack Ü's music video of their song 'Mind'
