Further Research: Media Intertextuality
Kendrick Lamar
Probably by far, one of the rappers who are on my favourite rappers list Kendrick Lamar, dropped a new track and music video last Thursday. Kendrick's rap style links with rapping about racial, social and political issues, mainly rapping about problems in black culture and inequality. Last Thursday, he dropped a music video called "Humble" which in my opinion was by far the "coolest" music video for me in terms of editing and camerawork. Moreover, it follows Andrew Goodwin's music video theory of Media Intertextuality. He is a video showing all of the hidden media texts the MV's director David Myers used.

Finalizing: Website---Pages and content
Here is the final touch for the website, replacing our old photo copied from the internet to one we took ourselves and edited ourselves from the school event.

Process to the final Video
Process
#trusttheprocess, probably the motto of this blog and throigh this process towards my final music video, we had a total of three rough cuts that Oni 8 did. The reason that we had that many rough cuts is because of the addition of effects that George did on the music video, mainly being the scribbling effect that we did.
The first video was something more along the lines of a rough plan more than our own rough cut of the video piece. What we did for this one was add all of the footage from inspirational music videos in order for us to get a rough idea on what they music video might look like and also as a reference for group meetings where we decide on whether to keep or cut certain pieces of footage from the inspired music video. All the inspirations of faded 2.0 are present in the inspiration rough cut above: The white studio from "Platinum", the zooming car that is present from Dr.Dre's music video, the choreography from "Run Ricky Run" and moreover, the selfie inspired shots from "Panda" and "Tove Lo's high all the time". Eventually, when we started filming, we combined all of the inspired shots, made a few adjustments and got this:
The first rough cut was an experiment for the first verse, plus the chorus of the music. We decided to only do the first verse for our first rough cut because we wanted to see what it would look like if we decided to use all of the inspired pieces of inspirational footage. The outcome had some pros and cons, firstly, lighting, we agreed to keep a few shots that were taken during the late afternoon such as the beginning, but we decided to take out the day shots where the protagonist sings the lyrics. However what we agreed on to change was to film the shots in the night. Moreover, when we look at the dancing scene, we thought about adding scribbling effects to follow the media intertextuality of Jack U, which uses scribbles onto their music videos as a signature.
However, what we did not like about this rough cut was the transition from verse to chorus, they seemed disconnected between one another. The main theme of our transition from verse to chorus is to introduce and bring in the dancers that are present in his mind to give the audience a feeling as if they afre being dragged are transported into a different scene (white background). Furthermore after watching the second rough cut, we decided to add the scribble effect within the dance scenes after a long thought on where we could be able to put it the beginning. The reason is to further support the protagonist of being dizzy and tripped off from alcohol. Seeing scribbles and bright colors. Moreover, it was a very good idea to combine all of the colors in the dancing scene since our dancers are the only source of colour from the dark and gradient music video. After discussing over the second rough cut, here was our outcome:
The result from this roughcut was excellent, it was what we wanted out of our music video. Moreover, the scribbling effect really looked similar to our inspired convention of scribbling for trap music which was inspired by Jack U and getter. With this scribble roughcut, we combined it with the rest of the video to gain our final rough cut.

For the second rough cut, we added a longer duration to the video and also adding in different effects such as the mirroring effect which signifies a connection to the protaognist's mind and the real world. Also it represents the guy's "fade" vision, being drunk and hallucinate, seeing things that are trippy. In support of the mirroring effect, we also added on some white light effects that flashes across the screen for a partial excess brightness to transition the protagonist's mind but to also signify a presence of bright party lights flashing across a dark frame.

Filming: Obsession Full Movie
Obsession
During the Christmas Holidays, I spent my Christmas day filming the continued version of the AS Coursework movie opening "Obsession". I brought back the entire crew and cast but this time, I also had the help of my dad's professional film crew in order to make the three days of filming this short film quick and smooth.
The characters remain the same, however, I extended the story after the opening. The process took a total of eight days; three days to film and five days to edit the entire short film in order for it to be fit in my applied University's criteria of 10 minutes.
Overall the final outcome was good, what I liked about this short film was the use of various lighting to set the tone and to tell the story. Natural lights that represent the peaceful and true mind of the boy and cold blue day for night lights to fit the emotion of the girl. I sent this off to film schools such as the Kanbar Film Institute it New York University, the University of Southern California and the Rhode Island School of Design. All prestiges art and film schools in the U.S, and recently, this film had led me into receiving offers from the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of Southern California. I was waitlisted for New York University, however, I am waiting for their final decision in May.
