Rough Process of the Website

This is the process of making a website with the use of wix:

Here is adding the slides and the header bar, I did this via the small add sign on the left. When you press it, there will be a menu where drag and click  the options we want then it'll appear. Depending on where it was placed at first, we can simply drag it and it will lock itself into the place you dragged the object. For this case I added slides. 

Slides is a way to convey information, it is basically a powerpoint presentation in a website. Viewers are able to see the person navigating the site and its information for each slide. 

You can upload both photos and videos onto the slide. I will be putting the music video on the second slide once it's done and for now I placed a temporary image with our logo on it.

I uploaded every single thing we needed on the website all to the images onto wix. This allows for quick access of any of the photos.

This is the tour dates page on the site. I made this by adding the text onto the website with the add key on the left. I dragged and drop it so it's placed right there.

At the bottom we see Shop Goods Now, as you can see, the top right box on silverlining of the text says button. A button is there so that we can navigate through the website. In my case, I placed the button to the shop where it is usually located in other website, underneath the tour dates.

Here is a temporary finish to the digipak

I made this by just placing a text and a shape. When the digipak is done, I'll be placing the digipak cover on top of the alternate shape and text.

The itunes and soundcloud are images with links to the website of itunes and soundcloud. This makes it so that they can move to itunes and soundcloud if the consumer wants to buy Faded 2.0. We don't have our own website and music due to copyright.

The button is on the header so it acts as a navigation bar.

This is the shop page that was available on wix to create. All we do is change the description the names, the prices and the images in order to create our own shop.

In order to make the website we have even more realistic, each product has a dedicated page to it. This is done by the use of the wix store included with the website creator. We are able to upload our own photos for each product and our own price and description.

This is an anchor I placed. An anchor makes it so that when linked to a button and pressed the button moves us straight to the anchor. The anchor is invisible to the consumer.

I placed an anchor here so it goes the tour section when you press the tour button.

Here is the setting of the links for the social media links. We set a task bar then we set the link to each of the icons. We made a set of oni8 pages for twitter and facebook then we set the pages on the icons.

Since our target audience tends to me in the young adult part of the generation, it tends to be that they will be using their mobile phones to explore the internet quite often, sometimes even more often than using a computer. Because of this I wanted to see the mobile site. Luckily with wix, they automatically convert all the pages to the mobile site. The picture below is the final product.

Post Production: Other Effects

Other Effects

After filming and deciding on making a scribbling effect on after effects, George, our editor worked on the edits and decided to add a few more effects to the video to make it as if it was a legit "Trap Music Video". 

We have filmed all the scenes we planned already, now is the matter of time we edit this whole video. With this video, we tried to make sure the editing was on point, making sure each cut was on the beat and making sure we had sufficient amount of special effects into the video in order to make the video a trap music video. We decided to do this as we don't have the resources and the budget to make up all the special trippy lighting and places which were suitable. We also weren't at the age where we can enter these places thus we had to go for another feel.

With the light leaks special effect, we learnt how it's made but at the current time, we didn't have a proper camera as we weren't with our camera man. How the light leaks special effect is made is we start filming when it's super dark in the room, then we just shine a flashlight into the camera and moving it around to create the effect.

For the mirrors and glitching, we downloaded a preset as we didn't know how to make it then we edited it into the part itself.

The cutting was simple cutting and placing into the right times.

Post Production: Scribbling Effect

This is the first time-lapse of recording the process of creating the 'scribble' effect. A lot of the minor scribbles, where there were not many frames in series to create the scribbles, are done for the first instrumental section. If you watch the part where it says the name of the artist, 'Zhu', it shows the process quite clearly. A lot of the work is in repetition.

Initially, we learnt how to create scribbles through this video:



The video explained how to create scribbles in Premiere, however we found another video that showed how it could be done in Photoshop:

We found Photoshop would be easier to work with, as we have more experience in Photoshop in terms of digital art, and also for the scribbles we thought it would be more flexible.

As mentioned earlier before, this was mostly inspired by Jack U's music video for Take U There:

We found that creating scribbles was time consuming, so we decided not to go as much as the animations in Take U There.

Second scribble process.

One of the references we wanted to add is 'nice one feed me'. This is a reference within the electronic music scene's culture. An artist called Marshmello has been getting attention recently, and one of his iconic features is  his mask, so his face has never had an official reveal, similarly to Daft Punk. However, there is a Snapchat story circulating coming from an artist called Feed Me, and in the snap there is a reflection of what most likely seems to be Marshmello's real face. The phrase 'nice one feed me' is a joke, as Marshmello's identity has been speculated since 2016, however this snap has ended the speculation, attention and potentially exposure Marshmello has been getting recently.

We have also included a reference to one of our inspirations, an artist named Getter. What makes his music videos iconic is the use of an art form called grime art. This can be seen on Getter's music video Headsplitter:

This series of scribbles include mostly working on hair animations as seen from Jack U's music video of Take U There.

Post Production: Color grading

Colour Grading

Due to the large amount of footage that is taken in the evening, and due to the lack of studio lighting that is required for a not shooting, the shots that we produced were grainy. As a result, I did a simple editing and color grading to get rid of most of the visible glitches. For this, I used Adobe AfterEffects to clean up footage.

First I dragged in the footage create a second layer for planning

Then, on the effects bar, there is an icon where we can adjust the colour grading of the video called "Colour Correction". There I dragged in the effects edits such as Hue and Saturation, Black and White and Auto levels to play around and adjust the colours of the video.

The videos were taken at night, so the outcome will lead with footages with a large amount of noise due to the high ISO settings that must be changed in order to capture footage using natural light un darkness. For this, AfterEffects has an effects icon in the Noise & Grain section called "Fractial Noise" where it basically cancels out the layers of noise i the video. For this, I just dragged in onto the file for the effect to work. 

Filming: Last scenes and finishing up

Filming Last Scenes

The final day of the filming was the day where we crammed all of the missing pieces and the improvements of shots together. We went back to the same location behind Hyde Park in the evening to film with the car. The highlight of the filming that night were the shots where the protagonist gets mugged by the DJ's and also the shots where the DJ's are singing in front of the headlights of the car that is present in the background.

The coolest shot that we experimented on that night was the curving pan shot, where I basically loosened my Manfrotto tripod so that the camera was able to pan at a degree of 360 and adjusted the tripod legs at a rather slant and diagonal angle. The outcome looked nice and fitted the music video theory of lyrics and visuals. The camera being tilted in different angles represent the unbalanced body of the protagonist and how he is struggling to keep himself stable, emotionally and physically from the brawling.

Filming Day 3

Filming Day 3

On Monday the 12th of December, we took the final scenes for Faded 2.0.

We started filming at 5:30 pm in the late afternoon at the back of Hyde Park. The props used for the filming were:

-Canon 5D Mark II
-14 mm lens
-16 mm wide lens
- Longboard

Longboard

The purpose of the longboard is obtain a track shot of Au walking along the road, and as a stand for high angle and low angle shots on top of him walking.

The main purpose for the filming on the 12th of December was to get all the shots of the main protagonist of the  music video and to answer the enigmas in the music video as to why it is filmed in such a drunk and faded way.

Additional Scenes that we also need are scenes where the protagonist drinks in the car and a montage of events before the present period when the protagonist was drunk.

After seeing the footage, we thought that the lighting was good, however, it did not fit the criteria of "Nightlife", as a result, we scheduled another filming at the same location on another day to film the sam scene but darker. 

Filming Day 2

Filming the Choreography and Street Scene

On Sunday the 27th November and Monday 28th November, we are going to film the choreography and the street scenes.

Monday: We travelled to my dad's film studio down in Meng Jai district Bangkok to film the choreography scene. For the choreography scene, we wanted a white background in a white room to represent the protagonist's internal thoughts. There will be three cameras set in the room at different areas of the room. Also, a small camera with a stabilizer will also be taken handheld for close ups of the dance moves and the dancers.

Filming Studio

On Tuesday evening, we left school at around 5:30 in the late afternoon to Meng Jai, a district in downtown Bangkok. We went to my dad's studio at his office to film the dance scene.

Equipment:

Canon 5D Mark II
Manfrotto Tripod
Stabilizer
4K Studio Lights
Blue 4K filters

As we settled into the studio, we started setting up equipment with the help of my father's crew who set up the 4K lights that is hazard in high voltage. We adjusted the tripod of the camera in its initial composition whilst the dancers were rehearsing their routine. As the lighting became in place, I adjusted the White Balance on my camera to 3200 Kelvins in order to match the lighting of the studio to make a blue/grey mood.

The first few takes were videos of the three dancers dancing together in the frame of the camera. First two takes were done zoomed out to the entire body and the other two taken zoomed into the body. The shots were also taken with a shake pan on the tripod to give a mood of a shake due to the dropping of the beat to the music. The other takes, we took the video of the dancers dancing on their own individually. The process was completed around 9:30 in the evening through number of breaks and takes and overall, everything went well.

In conclusion, the day we filmed at my dad's studio went well, there was a little problem in time management which should have been done earlier in the day. But the outcome would still be the same because the scene does not rely on natural lighting. But it would have benefitted the dancers and the crew because some of us live far away and still have other pieces of work to do.
